Yesterday's shopping escapades were not enough for some and under the guidence of Kaye they were up early and on the bus to be the first to attend the Shipshewana Antiques Fair. All I can say is that Shipshewana has been relieved of a few more of their antique quilts..... infact I think all of America has been relieved and Australia will be able to open it's own Antique Quilt Museum.....As we drove out of town everything looked so much prettier than the day before because the sun was shinning and skies were so blue.
From there we were back onto the motorway heading towards Marion Indianana. Here we were visiting the Quilters Hall of Fame
who honor those who have made outstanding contributions to the world of
quilting.
The home in which they display their quilts was the home of Marie Webster one of the inductee's. The home was saved from the brink of demolition by Marie's grandaughter. She offered the home to the hall of fame and it was then lovingly restored and used to exhibit quilts and a special comemoration to Marie herself.
We were welcomed by the ladies on the committee who gave a brief history and invited us to look around the home and gardens... it was a great stop....
From there we moved on for lunch at Bruces favourite restuarant Cracker Barrel where he recommended the "Chicken fried Steak" which really was "Country Fried Steak". We loved the rows of rocking chairs out the front and the load of americana that you could buy inside...
Howard our tour co ordinator's biggest challenge is rounding all these women up and back onto the bus .... especially when there is shopping involved.
Next stop was Indianapolis where we were bedding down for the night. We were suppose to go to Connor Prairie today but with the rain over the past few days we believed that it had become a bit of a quagmire, so we cancelled that and found a local patchwork shop instead "Quilters Quarter" ...... unlike others I am saving myself for Hancocks.... I will probably miss out now LOL....
Our hotel Drury Inn was very nice and had free hot food and drinks for a couple of hours.... but that is another story .....
